Home Sweet Home!
I know how cliche that sounds, but it's so true. Ryan and I moved in together this summer and we couldn't be happier in our new place. We live on the second floor of an old home so it has a lot of unique characteristics that add to its charm. I reserved this blog address this summer with the intent to keep it updated, but clearly that didn't work. I will give myself a second chance, starting now. For our first post, I'd like to take you on a tour of our place. Walk this way...

The picture in the heading is of our fabulous deck, which is one entrance into our apartment. The chairs are a gift from the girls who lived here before us, as they were moving and didn't have room for them. My mom and dad visited early in the summer and we went plant shopping at Lowe's (they have the best basil!). The pictures below are a few from our kitchen (the lovely table compliments of Ryan's sister, Jody).

At first I hated the mint green paint in the bathroom. After toning it down with the beige shower curtain and adding a green plant to balance it out, it started growing on me. There's the people toilet, and the kitty toilet (now we have 2 because we have 2 cats :-)

These are some pictures from our bedroom. Jan and John were kind enough to give us their old queen size mattress. I found this bedframe on clearance at Slumberland; it was my first "big kid" purchase!

The following are several snapshots of the kitchen (and Rex, our first cat). We have a classy neon clock that gets turned on for parties ;-) The spatula in the doorknobs are our form of "cat-proofing" the house, which is nearly impossible!

This is our hallway, leading down to the bedroom, bathroom, and office/spare bedroom. When visiting Ross in NC, Dad thought Ryan and I needed Civil War hats...Ross was right when he predicted we'd have a lot of fun with them-thanks Dad!

The last set of pictures is from our living room. Ryan put together the bookshelf himself! (Maybe I can con him into assembling a second...they're not very big for an English major...) The cat picture is something my mom framed for me years ago. Surprisingly, it looks a lot like Rex :) We also have the "man room" which houses the foosball table, weight bench, and make-shift beer pong table (a very small end table...makes for an extremely challenging game!).

The apartment has a ton of windows that let in gorgeous light as well as some nice breezes in the summer. (And in the winter we just discovered. The man room windows flew open with these crazy winds we've been having! The boys love playing in that room!) I forgot to mention the other luxury that comes with the place: a backyard! Complete with firepit, clothesline, and the most challenging croquet course you'll ever play. If you're ever in the area, stop by and visit. We'd love to have company =)
